The Encore Ministry serves Blessed Sacrament parishioners ages 60 and over. Events and activities are planned so that mature parishioners have opportunities not only to worship together, but also to travel, eat, pray, laugh, and share their gifts together. The purpose of Encore is to keep our most experienced parishioners involved in service, prayer, and fellowship in the parish.
Encore events have included bus trips to museums in Kansas City and Atchison, an annual Mardi Gras luncheon on Shove Tuesday, a trip to Pilsen, helping with Totus Tuus, a parish-wide showing of The Passion movie, a barbeque, and other activities. Additionally, the Blessed Sacrament Encore members also participate in events with Harvest House, a diocesan-wide group for mature disciples from Catholic churches throughout our area. Some of these events have included the Bishop’s Senior Mass and luncheon, a Fall Festival, and a diocese trip to EWTN with the Bishop. Approximately 60 persons attended Encore events this past year.
During the past year, Encore reorganized its leadership to a board of committees. As a result of this change, more members have the opportunity to become involved in planning by participating in the social committee, the spiritual committee, the publicity committee, or others. Planning for upcoming events has already begun, and will include a diocesan retreat with Bishop Gilmore, and a Thanksgiving potluck with Sr. Marietta Rother.
Encore activities are advertised in the bulletin and on the parish website. Anyone aged 60 or older is welcome to attend any Encore activity.
